Research shows that health disparities are closely linked to race and ethnicity, income, geography, and age. Oral health outcomes are no different.

Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation uses a data-driven approach to identify and invest in funding priorities that advance oral health equity.

Our Focus Areas

Access

Increase access to oral health services by expanding Colorado’s oral health workforce through:

  • Oral health careers awareness for youth and adults
  • Establishing Colorado’s first dental therapy training program
Prevention

Deliver evidence-based preventive services, promote oral health education, and strengthen connections to a dental home for children (ages 0–9) and older adults (ages 60+), particularly those who are underserved or face barriers to accessing care. We also support efforts that integrate oral health into broader health systems and community settings.

Proactivty

Anticipate and address oral health needs and opportunities.

Grant Funding Opportunity

Working with communities, we strive to understand what each community needs to be healthy given its unique assets, needs, and priorities. Through our grantmaking, we work together with communities to address their needs, implement activities to improve oral health, and influence long-term change.

The 2024 grant funding opportunity is accepting applications through February 15.

How else do we invest in Colorado’s Mile High Smile Power™?

Colorado Medical-Dental Integration Project (CO MDI)

Launched in 2014, this project expanded access to dental services for populations who experienced limited access to oral health care by integrating registered dental hygienists into medical care teams. Read more about the program and its impact.
