Community water fluoridation (CWF) is essential to good oral health. While toothpaste and mouth rinses contain fluoride, it’s often not quite enough to prevent tooth decay. CWF provides an extra level of protection for everyone. It is especially critical for children who lack regular access to preventive dental care. In these kids, it’s the last line of defense against tooth decay. CWF is fundamental to our mission of eradicating childhood tooth decay. Without it, the oral health of Coloradans would worsen.
CWF is a national issue but building support for it must happen at the local level. Dentists and physicians living in many Colorado communities support CWF, as well as the American Dental Association, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The foundation is currently developing an initiative that supports CWF. It will educate the public about its many benefits as one of the most trusted public health measures.
